I came to know about medium during my college days because for every question in my mind, there was someone who had written its answer on medium. Be it a question about philosophy, poetry or even the toughest engineering question, I would always find a solution here. That is where my adornment for medium began.
I started off by writing small book reviews but as my work load increased, I was not able to keep up with the consistency . As much as I wanted to give blogging time, I was not able to. 3 years later I got a notification
‘Someone subscribed to your email list on Medium’
I was immediately reminded on the project I once started. This is what writing does, even when you forget about your creations, it stays behind to reach the right people. Even after 5 years, people can find a piece of art you shared online and relate to it. That is why I write, to leave a mark even when I’m gone.
I created a plan ans started writing about whatever I want. I write about creating Notion templates, about increasing productivity and sharing my life with you all.
Now to answer the question you probably are reading through the lines for: 0$. Yes, Even after getting 40K + reads on my blogs, getting 1.2K followers, I make 0$ from Medium.
How?
Well, I live in India. It is one of the many countries that don’t come in the Partner Program eligibility. I was unaware that there would be a criteria for making medium an income stream but when I realised that it won’t be possible anytime soon, I was disheartened.
I would be lying if I said that the partner program did not give me motivation to write better and reach more people. I was eager to get my first 100 followers which I did in just 3 weeks. Yes I came for the program but I stayed for the growth.
What does that mean?
Writing on medium has brought too many changes in me. If I compare myself to my older self, I could see a clear distinction. I read more content and book in order to come up with time worthy articles for here, I interacted with more people, I took out time to practice my content writing skills and even grow my network. Writing on medium is probably the best thing that has ever happened to me because I am a more cautious and mature person now.
If you too are here to make money and you fit in the eligibility criteria, kudos! Go ahead and get to checks, you deserve it. I hope you write good content and grow exponentially. But, if you too, like me, don’t meet the criteria, stay. Stay for your older self to be proud. Stay because making a habit out of writing will do you more good. Stay because I can promise you a great personal growth. You can still think of other ways to make money here like affiliated marketing, growing your followers to write for brands here and even starting a newsletters with the email list.
There is so much more you can do with medium and that is for you to explore. Ask yourself, what do I do it for — and be honest with the answer.
